Amarnath Yatra 2025 Crosses 3 Lakh Pilgrims Amid Tight Security

The Amarnath Yatra is set to surpass 3 lakh pilgrims today, marking a significant milestone in just 18 days since its start on July 3.

A fresh batch of 4,388 pilgrims departed from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas on Sunday, joining thousands more registering directly at the Baltal and Pahalgam base camps.

Over 2.87 lakh devotees have already visited the holy cave shrine, nestled at 3,888 meters in the Kashmir Himalayas, to pay obeisance to the naturally formed ice lingam of Lord Shiva.

The pilgrimage, concluding on August 9 with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan, is under unprecedented security following a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that killed 26 civilians. Over 8,000 special forces, alongside 180 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including J&K Police, BSF, CRPF, SSB, and CISF, guard the routes 24/7.

RFID tracking and drone surveillance ensure real-time monitoring, with the Integrated Command and Control Centre at Raj Bhawan overseeing operations.

Pilgrims travel via the 46-km Pahalgam route, passing Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni over four days, or the steeper 14-km Baltal route, completed in a day. Despite a brief suspension due to heavy rainfall, the yatra has resumed smoothly, with locals offering warm support and robust facilities for lodging, medical aid, and transport.
