Agnimitra Paul Calls Egg-Throwing Proof Of Public Anger Against TMC Corruption

Agnimitra Paul links egg-throwing incident to anti-corruption anger.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and West Bengal MLA Agnimitra Paul on Wednesday linked recent incidents of egg-throwing targeting Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders to what she described as growing public anger over alleged corruption and misgovernance in the state. Speaking to reporters in Hooghly, she said such incidents reflected widespread resentment among sections of the public.

Paul, however, clarified that the BJP does not support any form of lawlessness or citizens taking matters into their own hands. At the same time, she argued that public frustration had been building over the years due to alleged corruption and lack of accountability in governance. She said people had not forgotten what she termed as “persecution and corruption” in recent years.

Referring to the recent attacks, Paul controversially described the incidents as a form of “deemocracy,” adding that it reflected the mood of the people. “We don’t want anyone to take the law into their own hands, but you cannot forget how the people of Bengal were persecuted, corruption happened on every level of society, and Mamata Banerjee did not do anything,” she said while addressing reporters.

The BJP leader alleged that repeated incidents involving eggs being thrown at TMC functionaries were a sign of deep public resentment against ruling party leaders. She claimed that citizens across the state had suffered due to corruption and administrative failures, though she did not provide specific evidence in support of the allegation during her remarks. Her comments come amid multiple reported incidents of “egg attacks” on TMC leaders in recent weeks across West Bengal.

The most recent incident took place outside Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence, where senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh was allegedly targeted with eggs on June 14. The Trinamool Congress has not issued an immediate response to Paul’s remarks. The incidents have triggered political sparring between the BJP and TMC, with both parties accusing each other of contributing to an increasingly charged political atmosphere in the state.
