Adani Mundra Airport Launches Commercial Operations; Star Air Inaugural Flight Lands From Goa

Adani Mundra Airport officially commenced commercial operations on Tuesday with the arrival of its inaugural scheduled passenger flight from Goa, marking a significant milestone for air connectivity in Gujarat's Kutch region. Regional carrier Star Air became the first airline to operate scheduled services to the airport, which is fully owned and operated by the Adani Group. The launch is expected to strengthen transportation links and support economic activity around one of India's most important industrial and logistics hubs.

The airport was inaugurated by Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings, who described the development as a major step toward improving connectivity between Mundra and other parts of the country. He said the airport would enhance access to the region and serve as an important gateway for businesses, investors, tourists and local residents. According to the Adani Group, the facility is expected to unlock significant economic opportunities for the Kutch region.

With the start of operations, Adani Mundra Airport will initially connect passengers to Goa, Mumbai, Hindon and Surat through regional flight services. Jeet Adani noted that the airport currently has a limited schedule, with plans to gradually expand connectivity as demand increases. He also indicated that Ahmedabad would soon be added to the airport's growing network of destinations.

The newly operational airport features a 1,900-metre runway and is currently focused on supporting regional aviation services. When asked about attracting airlines operating larger narrow-body aircraft, Jeet Adani said it was too early to discuss such plans. He explained that airlines are currently facing supply constraints and that the airport intends to allow market demand to determine future expansion rather than aggressively pursuing larger aircraft operations.

Officials also revealed plans to connect Mundra with additional cities including Belagavi, Bengaluru, Kolhapur and Nanded. These proposed routes are expected to improve accessibility for travellers and businesses while supporting trade and industrial activity in the region. The airport's strategic location near Mundra Port and the Special Economic Zone is expected to further strengthen its role in facilitating economic growth.

The launch of commercial operations is viewed as a calculated move to support the economic ecosystem surrounding India's largest private port and one of the country's biggest special economic zones. Star Air's introduction of multiple new services is expected to reduce travel time, improve logistics efficiency and strengthen business connectivity. Industry observers believe the airport could emerge as an important regional aviation hub as passenger demand and commercial activity continue to grow in the coming years.
