AAP is Real Sanatani Party, BJP Seeks Votes Using Lord Ram: Kejriwal

Kejriwal accuses BJP of politicising Lord Ram's name.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday described his party as the "true Sanatani" party and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of invoking Lord Ram for electoral gains rather than demonstrating genuine religious devotion. Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that despite frequently highlighting Lord Ram and the Ram Temple in speeches and election campaigns, senior BJP leaders had not visited the temple to offer prayers after its consecration.

Kejriwal claimed that the AAP had worked with sincerity towards Sanatan values, contrasting his party's approach with that of the BJP. He alleged that the ruling party was using Lord Ram as a political tool to secure votes instead of treating the deity with reverence. According to Kejriwal, this had disappointed many followers of Sanatan Dharma who expected greater respect for religious institutions and traditions from those invoking them during election campaigns.

During the press conference, the former Delhi chief minister also raised allegations related to donations made at the Ram Temple. He claimed that devotees across the country were distressed over what he described as irregularities involving temple donations. Without providing specific evidence to support the allegation, Kejriwal asserted that the issue had hurt the sentiments of Sanatanis and predicted that the BJP would eventually lose power both at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh.

Kejriwal further alleged that there was no public record of one senior BJP leader visiting the Ram Temple in the more than two years since its consecration. He argued that while the BJP regularly referred to the temple and Lord Ram in its political messaging, its senior leadership had failed to demonstrate their commitment through personal visits and worship. His remarks sought to question the BJP's claims of championing Sanatan values and religious heritage.

The BJP did not immediately respond to Kejriwal's allegations. The exchange comes amid heightened political rhetoric as parties continue to sharpen their campaigns ahead of upcoming elections. The Ram Temple in Ayodhya has remained a major political and cultural issue in recent years, with the BJP frequently highlighting its role in fulfilling the long-standing demand for the temple's construction. Kejriwal's remarks are likely to add to the ongoing political debate over the intersection of religion and electoral politics, with both parties expected to continue trading charges as campaigning intensifies.
