3-km Traffic Jam Reported On Mumbai-Pune Expressway Amid Ganeshotsav Rush
Heavy festive traffic causes major delays on the expressway.
Heavy traffic has been reported on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near the Khalapur toll plaza in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, with vehicles queued up for around 2 to 3 km amid the Ganeshotsav rush. The congestion is affecting passengers travelling towards the Konkan region as a large number of commuters use the route during the festival period.
To avoid the traffic near Khalapur, commuters travelling towards Konkan can exit the expressway at the Khopoli exit and take a U-turn. From there, they can travel towards Pali using the Khopoli-Pen Road and Pali Phata. The route provides an alternative to the congested section near the toll plaza.
After reaching Pali, travellers can proceed towards Wakan Phata and join the Mumbai-Goa Highway to continue their journey towards Konkan. The alternative route is expected to help commuters bypass the traffic buildup around the Khalapur toll plaza and reduce delays during the festival rush.

Raigad Police have also suggested other routes for passengers heading towards Konkan. One alternative is the Pali-Vile-Nizampur-Raigad Road-Mahad route, while another option is the Pali-Vile-Nizampur-Mangaon route. These routes can be considered by motorists looking to avoid the congestion on the expressway.
The traffic situation comes amid increased movement of people during Ganeshotsav, when large numbers of passengers travel from Mumbai and neighbouring areas towards different parts of Konkan. The resulting increase in vehicle movement has contributed to congestion on key routes leading towards the region.
Raigad Police have advised passengers travelling towards Konkan to use the suggested alternative routes to avoid the traffic near Khalapur. Commuters are also advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional travel time while travelling during the festival rush.
