Zelenskyy Confirms Indian Citizen Among Twelve Persons Killed In Recent Russian Air Assaults

An Indian citizen was among at least 12 people killed following a massive, coordinated barrage of Russian missiles and drones that struck several regions across Ukraine overnight into Tuesday morning. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the casualties in a detailed statement on social media, noting that the multi-wave assault also left dozens of civilians injured. The fatal strikes occurred just a day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where Modi had reportedly urged an end to the conflict. 

The aerial bombardment, which began at 6:00 PM on Monday, utilized a complex mix of ballistic, cruise, and anti-radiation missiles, alongside approximately 218 drones and decoy targets. Ukrainian military officials noted a significant technological shift during the raid, reporting that roughly one-third of the deployed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were jet-powered models designed to evade conventional interceptions. Despite the high volume of incoming threats, Ukrainian air defence forces successfully neutralized or suppressed 199 targets, including five ballistic missiles and 187 drones. 

The capital region bore the brunt of the casualties, marking the sixth consecutive day that Kyiv has been subjected to relentless Russian air raids. In the city center, seven individuals lost their lives when a Russian missile directly struck a critical railway depot. Meanwhile, in the nearby city of Boryspil, an explosive impact severely damaged a five-storey residential building, forcing the emergency evacuation of 50 residents; four people were killed and 13 others sustained injuries at the scene.

Beyond the capital, the Russian military executed strikes across 28 distinct locations, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and residential areas in ten separate provinces. In the southern port region of Odesa, guided aerial bombs and drone strikes deliberately targeted export infrastructure and a border crossing point along the Romanian frontier. The calculated strikes on energy facilities left thousands of households without electricity, prompting the deployment of nearly 350 emergency first responders to manage fires and restore power. 

The tragic death of the Indian national underscores the widening human toll of the war, coinciding with delicate diplomatic movements in Central Asia. President Zelenskyy used the aftermath of the tragedy to renew his urgent appeals to western allies, emphasizing that Russia intentionally times its strikes to exploit the country's dwindling supply of anti-ballistic interceptors. The Ukrainian leadership reiterated that the preservation of civilian lives directly depends on the immediate acceleration of foreign air defence assistance.
