Yogesh Singh Secures Historic Second Term as Delhi University VC
Yogesh Singh becomes Delhi University's first Vice-Chancellor reappointed for consecutive term.
The Central Government has reappointed Professor Yogesh Singh as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi for a second consecutive term, making him the first person to achieve the distinction in the university’s history under revised statutory rules. His new five-year tenure will begin on October 8, 2026.
Professor Yogesh Singh currently serves as the 23rd Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi. He first assumed office on October 8, 2021, and his reappointment means he will continue leading one of India’s most prominent universities for another five years after completing his current term.
The consecutive appointment became possible after the Central Government amended Statute 11-F of the University of Delhi Act in 2023. The revised provision allows a serving Vice-Chancellor to be considered for one additional five-year term, paving the way for Professor Singh’s historic reappointment.
