"Women’s Reservation Act A Landmark Step In Inclusive Governance" Says BJP Chief
Gujarat BJP chief calls women’s reservation a historic reform ahead of Parliament special session.
Ahead of the three-day special session of Parliament beginning April 16, the Gujarat unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday highlighted the significance of the Women’s Reservation legislation, stating that it represents a historic shift in India’s governance framework and a milestone for women’s empowerment.
Addressing a press conference in Jamnagar, Gujarat BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma said the upcoming parliamentary session would reflect national unity on the issue of women’s empowerment and contribute to building a more inclusive and balanced democratic system. He described the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as a landmark reform in India’s political history.
The leader noted that the legislation, passed in 2023, provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. According to him, the measure goes beyond numerical representation and is aimed at ensuring greater participation of women in policy-making and governance at all levels.

Jagdish Vishwakarma began his remarks by paying tribute to Dr B.R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary, stating that India’s constitutional framework has consistently supported gender equality and social empowerment. He added that women’s empowerment is central to the country’s development goals and long-term national progress.
He further said that recent policy decisions, including the abolition of triple talaq and the expansion of women’s roles in the armed forces, reflect the government’s commitment to strengthening women’s rights and participation. He also referred to flagship initiatives such as Drone Didi, Lakhpati Didi, and Ujjwala, which, he said, have contributed to financial independence and improved living standards for women.
The Gujarat BJP chief added that the state has historically been active in promoting women-centric development programmes, particularly in rural livelihoods, dairy, and self-help groups. He said initiatives like Sakhi Mandals, Mudra Yojana, and the Abhayam 181 helpline have further strengthened women’s entrepreneurship and safety, positioning women as key contributors to the state’s development model.
