Woman Rescues Three Children From Burning Building Before Dying In Fire

Woman rescues three children from burning building but dies in fire.

A tragic fire incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj claimed the life of a woman after she reportedly saved three children from a burning residential building before succumbing to the blaze, officials and local reports said. The incident occurred on the night of May 12 and has left the local community in shock.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out in a building that housed a crockery shop and warehouse on the ground floor, while family members were present on the upper floors. Officials said a suspected short circuit triggered the fire around 9:00 pm, which quickly spread through the structure.

As flames engulfed the building, thick smoke filled the stairways and blocked the main exit routes, trapping those inside. In panic, family members rushed towards the rooftop in an attempt to escape the rapidly spreading fire, while emergency services were alerted.

Amid the chaos, the woman identified as Archana showed extraordinary presence of mind and courage to rescue her children. Reports indicate she first secured her one-year-old child by wrapping the infant in a bedsheet and carefully lowering the baby to a neighbouring rooftop, where local residents pulled the child to safety.

She then assisted her 13-year-old and 10-year-old daughters in crossing over to the adjacent terrace using a ladder, ensuring they also escaped the fire. She is also reported to have helped rescue another family member during the emergency. Her actions ensured that multiple lives were saved despite the dangerous conditions inside the burning structure.

However, despite successfully evacuating the children, Archana was unable to escape the flames herself and died in the incident. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control after several efforts. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the fire and safety lapses, while the incident has prompted renewed concern over fire safety standards in densely populated residential areas.
