Woman Killed, Three Injured as Truck Crashes on Thane’s Barvi Dam Road

Speeding truck disaster claims life in Thane!

A speeding truck lost control on a steep slope along Barvi Dam road in Badlapur West, Thane district, at 7 AM on Saturday, killing a woman pedestrian and critically injuring three others, police said. The truck, heading toward Murbad, crashed into an auto-rickshaw with three passengers, a motorbike, a pedestrian, and a parked car near the Ulhas river bridge in Valivali, according to a Badlapur police official.

CCTV footage captured the truck hurtling down the slope before smashing into the vehicles, completely crushing the rickshaw. The unidentified woman died instantly, while the rickshaw passengers and motorbike rider sustained severe injuries. The truck driver, also injured, jumped out moments before the collisions. A person trapped in the parked car was freed using a crane, with wreckage clearance disrupting traffic until noon.

The two most critically injured victims were shifted to AIIMS Hospital in Dombivli for treatment. The accident, the third fatal crash in Thane this year per police records, has raised concerns about unregulated heavy vehicles on Barvi Dam road, a key route with a history of accidents due to its steep gradient. The police have filed a case under the Motor Vehicles Act, and preliminary investigations suggest brake failure or reckless driving as possible causes.

Further probe, including analysis of the truck’s black box, is underway to determine the exact trigger.
