Woman Alleges Zepto App Ingredient List Omitted Key Preservative
Woman alleges Zepto's ingredient list omitted preservative, company responds.
A social media post alleging discrepancies between ingredient information displayed on the Zepto app and the details printed on a delivered product's packaging has sparked discussion about transparency in online grocery listings. The claim was made by content creator Srishti Gosavi, who said the ingredient list shown on the quick-commerce platform did not match the label on the product she received. Zepto has since responded publicly, saying it was looking into the matter.
In a video shared on Instagram, Gosavi said she ordered a Wingreens Farms Peri Peri Garlic Dip after reviewing the ingredient list available on the Zepto app. According to her, the app displayed what appeared to be a "clean" ingredient list that did not mention any preservatives or acidity regulators. She said this information influenced her purchasing decision, particularly because children in her family would also be consuming the product.
However, after the order was delivered, Gosavi claimed she noticed that the ingredient list printed on the product packaging included a preservative that had not been listed on the Zepto app. She alleged that the preservative was the only ingredient missing from the app's description and described the discrepancy as shocking. In her video, she urged customers to carefully verify product labels after delivery and questioned whether the omission was intentional.

Referring to Zepto's upcoming initial public offering (IPO), Gosavi said companies should ensure complete and accurate disclosure of product information before seeking investor confidence. She argued that displaying correct ingredient details is a basic responsibility, particularly when consumers rely on online listings to make informed purchasing decisions. She added that the incident had affected her trust in online grocery platforms.
The video attracted significant attention on social media, prompting Zepto to respond in the comments section. The company said the experience described by the customer did not reflect the standards it aims to maintain and requested that Gosavi share her order details and contact information through a direct message so the matter could be investigated promptly. The response indicated that the company intended to review the issue further.
Gosavi, however, declined to continue the discussion privately, stating that she had already consumed the product and was more interested in raising public awareness than seeking an individual resolution. As of now, no further details have been released regarding the cause of the alleged discrepancy or whether it resulted from an outdated product listing, a labelling issue or another factor. The incident has nevertheless highlighted the importance of accurate ingredient disclosures on e-commerce platforms, particularly for consumers who make purchasing decisions based on nutritional or dietary information.
