A Grand, Seamless Thrissur Pooram This Year; Asserts Kerala CM
Kerala Government to Ensure Grand, Seamless Thrissur Pooram, Says CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured the state Assembly on Monday that the government is fully committed to ensuring a smooth and magnificent celebration of Thrissur Pooram, a cultural jewel of Kerala.
Responding to a query, Vijayan emphasized that all necessary steps are being taken to eliminate uncertainties and uphold the grandeur of the annual festival, renowned for its vibrant rituals and fireworks.
“All departments have been instructed to implement adequate measures for the festival’s seamless conduct,” Vijayan stated. “The District Police Chief is drafting a timely action plan in coordination with other departments.”
The assurance comes after last year’s unprecedented postponement of the fireworks display from early morning to daylight hours, a move that dampened spirits and drew sharp criticism from the opposition Congress and BJP, who accused the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government of mismanagement and excessive police interference.
Vijayan revealed that a high-level meeting he chaired on March 1, 2025, reviewed proposals to organize the globally celebrated event flawlessly, prioritizing security. The meeting also tackled challenges posed by a Central Government Gazette Notification amending the Explosive Act on October 11, 2024, which imposes stringent restrictions on firecracker displays at religious sites, including Thrissur Pooram.
To address this, a letter signed by Vijayan and other officials has been sent to Union Minister Piyush Goyal, seeking urgent intervention.
The Chief Minister’s remarks signal a proactive approach to preserving the festival’s legacy while navigating regulatory hurdles, aiming to restore confidence among devotees and enthusiasts eagerly awaiting this year’s Thrissur Pooram.
