West Bengal Prepares for ECI Meeting on Elections
CEO Agarwal leads talks to boost electoral readiness.
With a high-stakes meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar looming on September 10, West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Kumar Agarwal is spearheading a series of internal discussions to fine-tune the state’s electoral preparedness. On Saturday and Monday, Agarwal will convene critical meetings with key officials to assess and strengthen West Bengal’s election readiness, a source in the Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed to PTI.
The focus of these consultations is inspired by Bihar’s acclaimed Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which has caught the ECI’s attention as a model for other states. “The execution of the SIR in Bihar has garnered nationwide attention, and West Bengal is keen to adopt and adapt similar strategies,” the source said. The state aims to showcase its innovations and best practices during the upcoming Delhi meeting, positioning itself as a leader in electoral preparedness.
Saturday’s meeting will involve an internal review with senior officials, while Monday’s session will expand to include a comprehensive statewide assessment, with Additional District Magistrates (ADMs) from across West Bengal participating. These discussions will delve into district-level preparations, scrutinizing voter statistics, electoral roll updates, and logistical arrangements to ensure a seamless electoral process. “Agarwal is expected to present detailed voter data and highlight innovative strategies during these consultations,” the source added.

With other states looking to replicate Bihar’s success, West Bengal’s efforts could set a benchmark for electoral reforms nationwide.
As the state gears up for the Delhi meeting, the focus on meticulous planning and collaboration underscores Agarwal’s commitment to ensuring a robust electoral framework. The outcomes of these discussions are expected to shape West Bengal’s strategy, reinforcing its readiness for upcoming elections while contributing to the ECI’s broader vision of electoral excellence.
