West Bengal Governor Meets President Amid Flood Crisis, BJP-TMC Clashes

West Bengal Governor briefs President on mob attack, flood crisis.

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 8, 2025, to discuss the escalating violence and flood crisis gripping the state, following a brutal mob attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh in the Dooars region. The President's office confirmed the meeting via an X post, signaling high-level concern over the deteriorating law-and-order situation in North Bengal, where floods and landslides have displaced thousands and caused damages exceeding ₹500 crore.

The attack occurred Monday in Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri, as Murmu and Ghosh delivered aid to flood-hit areas. A mob, allegedly TMC supporters chanting "Go back BJP," pelted their convoy with stones, leaving Murmu with severe head injuries and Ghosh battered. Viral videos captured the chaos, showing shattered windshields and frantic evacuations. PM Modi slammed the "appalling" assault, while BJP leaders demand a CBI probe, accusing TMC of orchestrating violence to deflect from its flood response failures.

Bose, after visiting the injured leaders, condemned the attack and vowed swift justice. His meeting with Murmu likely pressed for central intervention, with sources suggesting he presented a flood damage report and sought action on the violence. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has demanded a Home Ministry report within 72 hours, reflecting Delhi’s alarm at Bengal’s "jungle raj." TMC, meanwhile, blames BJP’s "provocative politics," with CM Mamata Banerjee planning a ₹1,000 crore aid tour to Dooars.
