Weather Today: Heavy Rain Likely In Delhi, Odisha And Rajasthan
Heavy rain likely across several Indian states today.
Several parts of India are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday, August 8, according to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday night. The weather department has predicted widespread rainfall across northwest, central, eastern, northeastern, western and peninsular regions, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected in several areas.
In northern India, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are also expected to receive widespread rain. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over East Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan, while East Rajasthan could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
Eastern India is also expected to remain wet, with widespread rainfall forecast over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Odisha has been placed under a warning for very heavy rainfall on August 8, while Bihar is likely to continue receiving widespread rainfall. The forecast could lead to waterlogging and other rain-related disruptions in vulnerable areas.

Several northeastern states are also likely to experience rainfall, with isolated heavy showers forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. In western India, widespread rainfall is expected over Konkan and Goa, while parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat could also receive rain. Authorities and residents in areas prone to flooding have been advised to remain alert as rainfall intensity increases.
Southern and peninsular India are also likely to witness significant rainfall. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on August 8, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations. Parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh could also experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the period.
The weather department has advised people in vulnerable areas to exercise caution as heavy rainfall could affect road conditions, traffic movement and daily activities. Areas susceptible to waterlogging and flooding may face disruptions, particularly where rainfall is intense over short periods. The latest forecasts and local weather advisories are expected to guide authorities and residents as the rain spell continues.
