VP Radhakrishnan attends Motihari convocation and visits Bhitiharwa Ashram, highlighting education and heritage.
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan is scheduled to visit Bihar on Saturday to attend the third convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi Central University as the Chief Guest. The event is expected to bring together graduating students, faculty members, and dignitaries, marking an important academic milestone for the institution.
During his visit, the Vice President will also travel to the historic Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram in West Champaran district. The ashram holds significant historical importance as it is associated with Mahatma Gandhi and his efforts during the Champaran Satyagraha, making it a key site in India’s freedom movement.
The Bihar visit follows Radhakrishnan’s recent trip to Jharkhand, where he visited Ulihatu village in Khunti district, the ancestral home of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. During that visit, he paid floral tributes at Munda’s statue and interacted with his descendants, describing the experience as deeply moving and reflective of the enduring legacy of the tribal icon.

Highlighting Birsa Munda’s contributions, the Vice President said his life continues to inspire the nation’s youth and played a pivotal role in shaping India’s freedom struggle. He also recalled his earlier visit to Ulihatu during his tenure as Jharkhand Governor and emphasised that Munda’s ideals remain relevant in guiding future generations.
Radhakrishnan noted the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare November 15, Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary, as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas in 2021, calling it a significant step toward recognising and promoting India’s tribal heritage. He also highlighted government initiatives such as the PM-JANMAN scheme, which focuses on the welfare and empowerment of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
During his Jharkhand visit, the Vice President interacted with local residents and received a traditional welcome, with large crowds gathering to greet him. Several dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, and state minister Irfan Ansari, were present, while comprehensive security arrangements were put in place throughout the visit.
