VP Radhakrishnan Highlights Role of Skilling in India’s Global Talent Ambitions

VP Radhakrishnan highlights skilling as key to India’s global human resource ambitions.

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday emphasized that skill development is central to India’s ambition of becoming a global hub for human resources, stating that education must translate into employability to be truly meaningful. He was addressing the first convocation ceremony of Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skills University in Mumbai, where he served as the chief guest.

Highlighting the broader national vision, the Vice-President said the convocation marked not only an academic milestone for students but also a significant step in India’s development journey. He noted that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the country has undergone a transformative shift in its approach to skilling and human capital development, positioning itself to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy.

Radhakrishnan pointed to several flagship initiatives, including Skill India, PM-SETU, the Skill India Digital Hub, and the establishment of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as key drivers of this transformation. According to him, these programs have redefined how India prepares its youth by integrating vocational training with modern industry requirements and emerging technologies.

Congratulating the graduating students, he described them as pioneers and the first batch to pass out from the university, urging them to act as ambassadors of India’s talent on the global stage. He stressed that India’s demographic advantage—its large young population—can become a powerful asset if properly skilled, but may pose challenges if not equipped with relevant capabilities.

Reflecting on his earlier tenure as Governor, the Vice-President underscored the need for continuous curriculum updates in universities to align education with industry needs. He also praised the vision of CM Devendra Fadnavis, noting that Maharashtra is increasingly competing with leading global economies in innovation and development.

Invoking the legacy of Ratan Tata, he said the university carries the responsibility of bridging the gap between education and employability while fostering socially responsible individuals. During the event, he also launched a “Say No to Drugs” campaign and visited exhibitions organised by industry partners under corporate social responsibility initiatives.
