Odisha villagers brutally thrashed a woman and two men tied to an electric pole.

Villagers in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district tied a woman and two men to an electric pole and brutally assaulted them, suspecting an extramarital affair. The incident occurred in Kashipur village after the trio was spotted returning from the Jashipur weekly market. The woman, married with two children, was accompanied by two men, one of whom was described as a close family friend, akin to a brother. Despite this, her family and villagers accused her of an illicit relationship, leading to the violent attack.

According to reports, the woman’s family confronted the trio upon their return, sparking a heated argument. Enraged, villagers tied the three to an electric pole and beat them with punches, kicks, and sticks. Disturbing videos circulating on social media show villagers taking turns attacking the victims. The woman’s paternal uncle and others were among those who suspected her of infidelity, ignoring her familial ties with one of the men.

Police intervened, rescuing the woman and the two men and ensuring they received medical treatment at a nearby hospital. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances and hold those responsible accountable. A police official stated, “Further investigation is underway to address this unlawful act.”
