Vijay's TVK Removes Functionary After He Approaches Court Against Leaders
TVK functionary removed after legal action against leaders.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has removed party functionary M Gnanasoundari from its primary membership after accusing her of violating party discipline and making allegations that allegedly damaged the organisation’s image. The action came after Gnanasoundari approached the Madras High Court over the appointment of government advocates in Villupuram district. According to TVK Villupuram South district secretary N Mohanraj, Gnanasoundari had acted against the party’s policies and discipline by making allegations against senior leaders.
In a statement issued on Saturday, he alleged that she had “teamed up with opponents and made false allegations” and said her conduct was not in line with party regulations. Mohanraj said Gnanasoundari was removed from the party’s primary membership on July 17. He also advised party members not to maintain contact with her following the disciplinary action.
Gnanasoundari, who is an advocate, had filed a petition before the Madras High Court challenging the process of appointing government advocates in Villupuram district. She had alleged irregularities in the selection process and claimed that bribes were paid for temporary appointments of government pleaders.
The allegations were rejected by TVK, which maintained that there was no wrongdoing in the appointment process. The party’s latest action against Gnanasoundari came shortly after the court disposed of her public interest litigation on July 17. During the hearing, Advocate General appearing for the state informed the court that the current appointments were only temporary in nature. The court was told that the formal appointment process, which involves a large number of candidates, would take around three to six months to complete. Based on the clarification, the court disposed of the petition.

The development ended the immediate legal challenge over the temporary appointments, but the issue had already created internal differences within the newly formed political party. TVK, founded by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has been expanding its organisational structure ahead of its political activities in Tamil Nadu.
The party has repeatedly emphasised discipline among members and has taken steps against individuals whose actions it believes affect the organisation’s reputation. The removal of Gnanasoundari highlights the challenges faced by emerging political parties in managing internal disagreements while maintaining organisational unity.
Allegations raised by party members against leadership often become sensitive issues, particularly as parties prepare for larger political contests. Gnanasoundari’s legal challenge had brought attention to the process of appointing government advocates in the district, while the party’s response underlined its position that internal matters should follow established organisational channels.
The TVK has not indicated whether any further disciplinary action will follow or whether Gnanasoundari plans to pursue additional legal options. Meanwhile, the party is expected to continue focusing on strengthening its organisational network across Tamil Nadu.
