Vijay Meets Tamil Nadu Governor, Stakes Claim to Form Government Ahead of Thursday Swearing-in

TVK president Vijay submits letter to Governor Arlekar as swearing-in set for Thursday.

C Joseph Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Wednesday met Governor Rajendra Arlekar and formally staked claim to form the next government in the state. The development comes shortly after the Congress party extended its support to the TVK, clearing the path for Vijay to assume office following the party’s electoral success.

The meeting took place at the Lok Bhavan in Chennai, where Vijay was accompanied by senior party leaders and office-bearers. Among those present were TVK general secretary N Anand and other key figures including KA Sengottaiyan and Aadhav Arjuna. Their presence underscored the party’s readiness to transition from electoral victory to governance.

Upon arrival, Vijay was received by the Governor’s Secretary, R. Kirlosh Kumar, who welcomed him at the entrance and presented a bouquet. During the meeting, Vijay submitted a formal letter staking claim to form the government, following which the Governor presented him with a ceremonial shawl, marking the significance of the occasion in the state’s political process.

Officials indicated that the Governor is expected to formally invite Vijay to form the government in the coming days, a procedural step that will pave the way for the swearing-in of the new administration. The rapid developments reflect the pace at which the transition of power is unfolding after the election results and subsequent political alignments.

Vijay and his proposed Council of Ministers are scheduled to be sworn in at a grand समारोह at the Nehru Indoor Stadium on Thursday, May 7. Preparations are reportedly underway for a large-scale event, which is expected to be attended by political leaders, party workers, and supporters from across the state.

The formation of the new government marks a significant moment in Tamil Nadu politics, with Vijay transitioning from a film star to a chief ministerial role. As the TVK prepares to take charge, attention will now turn to how the party delivers on its campaign promises and navigates governance in one of India’s most politically dynamic states.
