Vijay Breaks Silence on Karur Stampede, Pledges to Meet Affected Families

Actor-politician vows to meet victims, challenges CM Stalin.

In the wake of the tragic stampede at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) rally in Karur that claimed 41 lives, actor and TVK founder Vijay addressed the public in an emotional video message on Tuesday. The popular star, grappling with what he described as the most "painful situation" of his life, revealed he has not yet visited the affected families or the injured, citing concerns that his presence in Karur would create an "unusual situation" and potentially exacerbate the crisis.

The September 27 stampede in Velusamypuram, Karur, approximately 400 km from Chennai, has cast a shadow over Vijay’s burgeoning political career. In his video, posted on social media, he promised to meet the victims’ families and the injured soon, assuring them of his support. "I will be there for you," he said, addressing those affected by the tragedy that also injured over 50 people.

Vijay took a defiant stance against Chief Minister M K Stalin and the ruling DMK, challenging them to take any action against him personally but to spare his party colleagues. Senior TVK leaders, including state general secretary Bussy Anand and deputy general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar, are currently facing police cases related to the stampede, charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide, endangering lives, and disobedience to public orders.

Addressing allegations about his conduct, Vijay clarified that he left the rally venue quickly on the day of the incident to prioritize public safety. He hinted at forthcoming revelations about the stampede, asserting, "The truth will come out soon." His remarks suggest confidence in clearing his name and that of his party, even as investigations continue.

The Karur stampede has sparked intense scrutiny of TVK’s event management and Vijay’s leadership, with critics pointing to his delayed arrival at the rally as a contributing factor to the overcrowding and chaos. In his message, Vijay appeared to shift some of the blame toward the state administration, accusing them of potential vendetta against his party. "CM sir, if you seek vengeance, target me, not my party men," he declared, positioning himself as a shield for his colleagues.

As Tamil Nadu mourns the loss of lives in the Karur tragedy, Vijay’s response has ignited a political firestorm. His pledge to meet the victims and his bold challenge to the DMK signal a turbulent road ahead for the actor-turned-politician. With public sentiment divided and legal proceedings underway, the coming days will likely reveal more about the incident and its impact on TVK’s future in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
