Vice-President Releases Book On RSS’s 100-Year History And Contributions

Vice-President launches book on RSS centenary journey.

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday released the book “RSS @100: A Century of Service, Unity & Sacrifice”, authored by Shyam Jaju and Anupam Trivedi, highlighting the organisation’s focus on character-building, leadership development and social service through its network of daily shakhas. The book traces the journey of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) over a century and examines its role as a voluntary organisation.

Speaking at the book release event, Radhakrishnan praised the RSS’s emphasis on developing discipline, responsibility and leadership among volunteers. Referring to the chapter titled “A Swayamsevak as PM: The Modi Era”, he said the publication presents Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s journey from a Swayamsevak to Pradhan Sevak, while underlining the role of service-oriented values in public life.

The Vice-President said Prime Minister Modi has consistently placed the principles of “seva” (service) and “Rashtra Pratham” (Nation First) at the centre of governance. He added that these values reflect the RSS’s long-standing focus on selfless service, social commitment and nation-building efforts.

Radhakrishnan also recalled his discussion with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, noting that both had begun their public journeys as grassroots workers connected with movements influenced by Jayaprakash Narayan’s ‘Sampoorna Kranti’ (Total Revolution). Comparing the RSS’s growth to the Ganga, he said the organisation had expanded from modest beginnings into one of the world’s largest voluntary organisations.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts President Ram Bahadur Rai, RSS Kshetra Sanghchalak Pawan Jindal, authors Shyam Jaju and Anupam Trivedi, and Prabhat Prakashan Managing Director Prabhat Kumar. Earlier, Radhakrishnan described the RSS shakha as a platform where young people’s energy is shaped into national character.

The Vice-President said the themes highlighted in the book’s title — service, unity and sacrifice — represent values that have guided generations of volunteers. He explained that service reflects commitment to society, unity strengthens bonds across India’s diverse communities, and sacrifice represents the dedication required to build enduring institutions.
