VHP Claims 254 Hindus Killed in Attacks Till August, Surendra Jain Says

VHP's Jain also seeks fast-track courts, madrasa regulation and adult trials for minors.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) joint general secretary Surendra Jain has claimed that 254 Hindus were killed in attacks across India up to August this year and called for action against what he described as “extremist forces”. Jain made the remarks while raising concerns over incidents that the organisation believes were motivated by religious hatred and urged authorities to take stronger measures against those responsible.

Jain also called for stricter action in cases involving minors accused of violence or murder allegedly driven by religious hatred. He argued that the nature of such offences should be taken into account while dealing with juvenile suspects and said serious incidents motivated by communal hostility required an appropriate response from law enforcement and the justice system.

The VHP has sought greater attention to what it describes as attacks targeting members of the Hindu community. Jain’s comments come amid continuing political and social debates over communal violence, religiously motivated crimes and the effectiveness of existing mechanisms to prevent such incidents. The organisation has urged authorities to identify those responsible for attacks and take action against groups or individuals it considers involved in extremist activities.

The figures cited by Jain represent the VHP’s assessment of killings reported during the period and were presented as part of the organisation’s demand for stronger government intervention. Such claims can encompass incidents with varying circumstances and motivations, making independent verification and case-by-case investigation important before drawing conclusions about the causes of individual attacks.

Jain further demanded measures to prevent the spread of religious hatred and violence, particularly in cases where young people are allegedly influenced by extremist ideologies. The VHP has maintained that authorities should respond firmly to crimes involving communal motives while ensuring that investigations establish the circumstances and motivations behind each case.

The organisation’s demands are likely to add to the wider discussion over communal violence, juvenile justice and the role of law enforcement in addressing religiously motivated crimes. Any action arising from the allegations would depend on investigations by the relevant authorities and the legal processes governing the individual cases.
