Vande Bharat Makes History by Crossing Chenab and Anji Bridges at 100 Kmph
Katra-Banihal section's speed limit was revised to 100 kmph.
The Vande Bharat Express crossed the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab River at 100 kmph for the first time, marking a significant development for rail connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. The train also crossed the Anji Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, at the same speed.
The development followed the revision of the maximum permissible speed on the 111-km Katra-Banihal broad-gauge railway section to 100 kmph, according to officials cited by PTI. The revised speed limit enabled the Vande Bharat Express to operate across the key railway structures at the higher speed.
The Ministry of Railways shared a video of the train crossing the Chenab Bridge and said on X, “For the first time, Vande Bharat crosses Chenab Bridge at 100 km/h.” The footage showed the train travelling across the bridge as part of its journey through the newly developed rail corridor.

The Chenab Bridge spans the Chenab River and is recognised as the world's highest railway bridge. Its completion forms part of the railway infrastructure developed to improve connectivity in the mountainous region of Jammu and Kashmir and provide a rail link through difficult terrain.
The train also crossed the Anji Bridge, located on the Katra-Banihal section, at 100 kmph. The structure is India's first cable-stayed railway bridge and is another major engineering component of the railway route through the region.
The speed revision represents the latest operational development on the Katra-Banihal section, allowing trains to travel at up to 100 kmph. The Vande Bharat Express's crossing of both landmark bridges at that speed was highlighted by the Railways as a first.
