V-P Radhakrishnan Highlights Vision To Take Panjab University To Global Standards
Radhakrishnan urges collective efforts to elevate Panjab University globally.
Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan visited the 144-year-old Panjab University in Chandigarh on Friday and inaugurated the Advanced Instrumentation Facility at the Sophisticated Analytical Instrument Facility/Central Instrumentation Laboratories (SAIF/CIL). He also inaugurated the Panjab University Tech Innovation Forum (PU-TIF), two initiatives aimed at strengthening the university’s research, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The new instrumentation facility includes five advanced scientific instruments — an Atomic Force Microscope, Raman Spectrometer, DNA Sequencer, Flow Cytometer and FTIR Spectrometer. The facilities are expected to strengthen research capabilities in areas such as nanotechnology, materials science, environmental science and genomics, while providing researchers with access to advanced analytical infrastructure.
Addressing the gathering, Radhakrishnan highlighted Panjab University’s long academic legacy and its contribution to nation-building through generations of leaders, jurists, scientists, sportspersons and public servants. He noted India’s growing position as a global destination for quality education, research and innovation, while emphasising the importance of strengthening collaboration between academia, industry, incubators and investors.

The Vice-President urged young researchers to pursue science with purpose and develop innovations that are inclusive, scalable and capable of addressing real societal needs. He also called for research outcomes to translate into tangible benefits for society, encouraging students and faculty to turn ideas emerging from classrooms and laboratories into opportunities for youth and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Radhakrishnan also addressed concerns over campus safety following the death of a Ph.D. student. He noted that he had directed the university authorities to conduct a comprehensive safety audit and that an internal committee had been constituted to review existing infrastructure and submit a detailed report. He stressed that the safety and well-being of students and staff must remain a top priority.
Calling for collective participation in the university’s transformation, the Vice-President invited suggestions from the Panjab University community on measures to develop the institution into a world-class centre of higher education and research. He expressed confidence that the new scientific facilities and PU-TIF would further strengthen the university’s contribution to research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
