Uttarakhand Allocates Rs 11 Crore to Restore Iconic Ram Jhula Bridge in Rishikesh

uttarakhand government greenlights rs 11 crore to repair the historic ram jhula bridge, ensuring safety for tourists.

The Uttarakhand government has approved Rs 11 crore for the repair and maintenance of the iconic Ram Jhula suspension bridge in Rishikesh, a key landmark spanning the River Ganga, an official announced on Friday. Constructed in 1986, the 450-foot-long bridge connecting Shivananda Nagar with Swargashram has been a popular tourist attraction but was restricted to limited pedestrian use and closed to two-wheelers since August 2023 due to safety concerns.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami authorized the funding, as confirmed by Uttarakhand Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal. “Tenders for the maintenance work will be issued within 10 days, with repairs expected to be completed in six months, ensuring the bridge is fully safe for public use,” Uniyal told PTI.

The restoration project, overseen by the Public Works Department (PWD), will involve replacing the bridge’s iron ropes, reinforcing its pillars, and securing its abutments, according to PWD Executive Engineer Vijay Moga. The revitalized Ram Jhula bridge is set to regain its status as a safe and vibrant hub for locals and tourists alike.
