Uttar Pradesh: Over 2 Dozen Students Injured In School Bus-Truck Collision

Over two dozen students injured in Uttar Pradesh bus collision.

More than two dozen students were injured on Monday after a school bus collided head-on with a container truck in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, police said. The bus was carrying students of RPS Academy School when the accident occurred on Thauri Road between Alinagar and Thauri. The incident took place around 11 am under the jurisdiction of Bhale Sultan Shaheed Smarak police station.

Additional Superintendent of Police Gyanendra Kumar Singh said the bus collided with the oncoming container, leaving more than two dozen children injured. Emergency teams responded to the accident site, where the container became entangled with the school bus. A crane was brought in to separate the two vehicles and assist with the rescue operation.

Of the injured students, 15 were taken to the Community Health Centre in Jagdishpur for medical treatment. Two children suffered fractures, while the remaining injured students were reported to be out of danger, according to the police officer. Authorities continued to assess the condition of the children and the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The accident has also raised questions about why the school bus was operating on Monday despite an official holiday declaration. Amethi District Magistrate Sanjay Chauhan had announced the closure of schools across the district on Monday because of heavy rainfall. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances under which the students were travelling and whether the school had followed the district administration’s directions.

Police have begun legal proceedings in connection with the accident and are examining the circumstances that led to the head-on collision. Investigators are expected to assess the vehicles involved and gather information from those present at the scene as part of the inquiry.

The accident comes as several parts of Uttar Pradesh continue to experience heavy rainfall and weather-related disruptions. With students among those injured, authorities will also be expected to examine school transport arrangements and compliance with safety and administrative instructions as the investigation progresses.
