The United States has signaled strong support for India’s territorial integrity in the context of the new India-US trade framework. The US Trade Representative’s Office released a map of India that clearly demarcates Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, including areas under Pakistan’s illegal occupation, marking a significant diplomatic message.
The move underscores Washington’s acknowledgment of India’s political map, directly rejecting Pakistan’s long-standing territorial claims. By officially depicting Jammu and Kashmir as Indian territory, the US has sent a firm signal that its policy aligns with reality rather than Pakistan’s narrative.
For Islamabad, this constitutes a major diplomatic setback. Despite multiple high-profile visits to Washington by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, efforts to gain US recognition of its claims have failed. The map release highlights that US strategic interests in Pakistan, including minerals and military hardware, do not extend to validating Pakistan’s territorial assertions.

The timing of the release coincides with the announcement of the India-US trade framework. The map was included in graphics showing India’s reduction of tariffs on key US exports, including tree nuts, red sorghum, wines, spirits, fresh and processed fruits, and dried distillers’ grains. In return, the US has cut tariffs on Indian goods from 50 percent to 18 percent, withdrawing additional duties.
Analysts note that the US message is twofold: while maintaining strategic ties with Pakistan, it recognizes India as a crucial geopolitical partner. The map sends a clear diplomatic signal to Islamabad, emphasizing that engagement with the US does not come at the cost of compromising India’s sovereignty.
The development reinforces India’s growing global standing and the strategic depth of the India-US partnership. By combining trade cooperation with firm diplomatic support, Washington has delivered a subtle yet impactful message on both commerce and territorial integrity.
