US envoy Gor meets Amit Shah to discuss counter-terrorism cooperation.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday, with both sides holding detailed discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts and combating illicit drugs. The meeting focused on expanding coordination between India and the United States in areas of security, border management, and transnational crime prevention.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Gor described the discussions as “fruitful” in a post on social media platform X, stating that both sides explored ways to enhance collaboration to combat terrorism, curb narcotics trafficking, secure borders, and jointly bring criminals to justice. The engagement reflects ongoing efforts to deepen security cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, where both leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across key sectors including trade, defence, energy, technology, and people-to-people ties. The discussions also touched upon broader global issues, including regional stability and maritime security.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during his recent visit to India, had also emphasised the strategic alignment between the two nations on issues such as critical minerals, supply chain resilience, and counter-terrorism. He described India as one of the United States’ most important global strategic partners.
Rubio further noted that both countries have been impacted by global terrorist networks and stressed the importance of sustained cooperation in addressing these threats. Officials from both sides have consistently reiterated that counter-terrorism remains a key pillar of the India-US strategic partnership, with increasing convergence on intelligence sharing and security coordination.
