US Bombed Iran’s Key Oil Hub Kharg Island, Trump Says

US strikes military targets on Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub.

Donald Trump said the United States carried out a powerful bombing raid on Iran’s strategic oil hub, Kharg Island, claiming American forces had “totally obliterated” every military target on the island during the ongoing conflict in the region.

Trump said the operation was executed by the U.S. military against installations on the island, which he described as Iran’s “crown jewel.” According to the president, the strike targeted military assets and defenses on the island but deliberately avoided destroying the critical oil infrastructure located there.

Located in the Persian Gulf, Kharg Island serves as the primary export terminal for Iranian crude oil and is considered one of the most economically vital assets for the country. The island handles roughly 90% of Iran’s oil exports, making it a crucial hub for Tehran’s energy revenue and global oil supply routes.

Trump said the U.S. military chose not to strike the oil facilities “for reasons of decency,” but warned that the infrastructure could become a target if Iran attempts to disrupt shipping through the nearby Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.

The strike marks a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation involving the United States, Iran and regional actors in the Middle East. Analysts say any major damage to Kharg Island or threats to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could have immediate global repercussions, particularly for energy markets and oil prices.

The Pentagon has not released detailed operational assessments of the strike, but officials confirmed that U.S. forces have intensified military operations against Iranian targets amid the broader conflict. Experts warn the latest attack could trigger further retaliation and heighten instability across the Gulf region, a critical corridor for global energy supplies.
