US Bolsters India-US Counter-Terrorism Ties

Tejasvi Surya hails diplomatic win after Pahalgam attack

The United States’ designation of The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy responsible for the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and Specially Designated Global Terrorist marks a significant diplomatic victory for India, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya told NDTV.

Surya, part of an all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, emphasized the “tremendous response” from US Vice President JD Vance during their June 6 meeting in Washington, DC. “Our enemies are common,” Surya said, noting Vance’s unequivocal support for India’s fight against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. The delegation, including MPs from BJP, Shiv Sena, and others, discussed counter-terrorism and technological cooperation, reinforcing the India-US strategic partnership.

The TRF designation, announced overnight by the US State Department, strengthens India’s global outreach post-Pahalgam, enabling enhanced international cooperation, including extradition of TRF operatives. Surya predicted increased pressure on Pakistan through sanctions and actions against terror financing, warning terrorists that “our army stands ready to act.”

Vance, who was in India during the attack and met PM Narendra Modi, praised India’s restraint and diplomatic resolve in Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike against Pakistani terror infrastructure. The move underscores a shared commitment to combating terrorism, with Surya calling it a global, not just Indian, concern.
