UP to Conduct Helicopter Flower Showers on Kanwariyas August 9-10

The Uttar Pradesh government will shower flower petals on Kanwariyas from a helicopter across seven western districts on August 9 and 10. The programme forms part of the state’s arrangements for the annual Shravan Kanwar Yatra and is intended to welcome devotees travelling along major pilgrimage routes. The government said it was working to ensure that the religious procession was conducted in a safe, orderly and grand manner.

According to the official schedule, the helicopter will leave Lucknow at approximately 8 am on August 9 and travel to Baghpat, where petals will be showered on devotees from 10.30 am to 11.15 am. It will then proceed to Saharanpur for a flower shower between 11.45 am and 12.45 pm. The aircraft will subsequently cover Muzaffarnagar from 1.30 pm to 2.15 pm before continuing to Meerut.

Kanwariyas in Meerut will receive the aerial floral welcome from 3.45 pm to 4.30 pm, concluding the first day’s scheduled programme. The helicopter’s total flying time on August 9 is expected to be six hours and 10 minutes. The aircraft will remain in Meerut before beginning the second phase of the operation the following morning, according to the itinerary released by the state government.

On August 10, the helicopter will take off from Meerut and reach Ghaziabad, where flower petals are scheduled to be showered from around 8.30 am to 9.15 am. It will then travel to Hapur for a similar programme between 9.45 am and 10.30 am. The final flower shower will take place over Bulandshahr from 11.15 am until noon, after which the helicopter will leave for Lucknow at approximately 12.30 pm.

The second day will involve three hours and 45 minutes of flying, bringing the total duration of the two-day aerial campaign to nine hours and 55 minutes. During the Kanwar Yatra, devotees of Lord Shiva travel to collect water from sacred rivers and carry it to temples for ritual offerings. The government said the floral welcome would complement its broader security, traffic-management and logistical arrangements for the pilgrimage across western Uttar Pradesh.
