AISA President Neha Bora Accuses UP Government Of Failing Students On Education, Jobs

All India Students Association national president Neha Bora on Monday criticised the BJP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh and at the Centre, accusing them of failing to address unemployment, recruitment delays and concerns related to education. Speaking during the ‘Gen-Z Mahajutan Yatra’ in Gorakhpur, she said student and youth movements across the country reflected growing dissatisfaction with existing education and employment systems. Bora called for greater accountability from governments and university administrations while highlighting issues affecting students, job aspirants and young people.

Addressing the gathering as part of AISA’s nationwide ‘Gen Z Rising’ campaign, Bora said students in Uttar Pradesh were facing several unresolved problems, including delays in scholarships, inadequate hostel facilities and a shortage of accommodation for women students. She also alleged that budget cuts had affected infrastructure and facilities in public universities. According to her, these concerns were contributing to uncertainty among students about their academic futures, particularly at a time when access to quality education and affordable facilities remains a major challenge for many families.

Bora also raised the concerns of competitive examination aspirants and candidates waiting for recruitment opportunities in the state. She expressed solidarity with those preparing for Trained Graduate Teacher and Post Graduate Teacher examinations, as well as candidates seeking to appear under earlier rules and examination patterns. Alleging that teacher recruitment had not progressed adequately, she said a backlog had remained pending since 2018. She reiterated the demand for the notification of at least 60,000 posts and urged the Uttar Pradesh government to clear the recruitment backlog.

The AISA leader also questioned the government’s handling of higher education-related promises. Referring to the non-NET fellowship at Gorakhpur University, she claimed that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced the fellowship during a visit but that students received it for only one month, after which there was no further communication. Bora also referred to a recent incident in Lucknow in which a journalist allegedly claimed that her questions were ignored during a press conference addressed by the chief minister. She used the issue to argue that students and citizens deserved greater transparency from those in authority.

Bora further criticised alleged bulldozer actions in Uttar Pradesh and said families affected by such operations should receive support. She claimed that Muslims and Dalits had been disproportionately affected and referred to incidents of mob violence, killings and sexual assault as contributing to an atmosphere of fear. She accused certain groups associated with the Sangh and other outsiders of acting outside the law. “We oppose individuals and groups who, by taking the law into their own hands, have effectively become militias,” she said, alleging that such actions weakened the rule of law.

Citing student mobilisation at Jantar Mantar, Bora said organised student and youth movements could challenge those in power. She said people in Gorakhpur could also work to change the city’s image and remove the perception of it being associated with “bulldozer raj.” The yatra began in Prayagraj and passed through Varanasi and Azamgarh before reaching Gorakhpur, with Ayodhya and Lucknow scheduled as its next destinations. AISA’s Uttar Pradesh unit launched the campaign in August to raise issues related to education, employment and social justice.
