UP CM Flags Off 48 Flood-Relief Trucks for Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab

48 trucks deployed; UP pledges Rs 5 crore to Uttarakhand, Himachal, Punjab

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath flagged off 48 trucks loaded with relief materials for flood-affected residents in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab on Monday, demonstrating interstate solidarity in the face of severe weather disruptions.

At an event in Saharanpur, Adityanath described the relief supplies as a "vital expression of human compassion", underscoring that Uttar Pradesh's 25 crore residents stand united with those impacted by the floods. The initiative comes amid widespread flooding in northern India, triggered by heavy rainfall and cloudbursts, which have caused significant damage in the recipient states.

Adityanath announced additional financial assistance of Rs 5 crore each for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh from the Uttar Pradesh government. He linked the effort to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat", highlighting how such actions foster national cohesion during crises. He praised the role of organisations like the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Apda Mitra, and local police in relief operations, noting that community and voluntary support amplifies their effectiveness.

While addressing Uttar Pradesh's own disaster preparedness, Adityanath pointed out that floods remain the state's primary natural challenge. He credited timely measures for minimising major devastation, despite minor waterlogging in low-lying areas. Vulnerable spots, including regions along the Yamuna River and the mouths of the Ganges, Saryu, Ghaghra, Ramganga, and Hindon rivers, were identified as high-risk zones. The government has promised immediate relief for any losses due to river overflows, including compensation for families affected by animal or snake bites, home reconstruction, and support for flood-hit villages with meals, milk, fodder, and safe transport to camps.

In a show of ongoing commitment, Adityanath stated that Uttar Pradesh is ready to assist in future disasters. To ensure smooth delivery, state ministers Kunwar Brijesh Singh and Jaswant Saini will personally oversee the aid to Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, respectively, while Saharanpur MLA Rajiv Gumbar handles the supplies for Punjab. Adityanath urged the public to stay vigilant during such events, emphasising that unified national efforts can overcome challenges.
