JP Nadda Highlights Ayushman Arogya Mandirs' Role in Cancer Early Detection

Ayushman Arogya Mandirs boost cancer screening and early detection nationwide.

Union Health Minister and BJP President JP Nadda on Tuesday said India’s fight against cancer is gaining strength with the expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, highlighting their growing role in early detection, screening, and accessible primary healthcare across the country. Speaking at a public health-related event, Nadda said Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are transforming the healthcare delivery system by bringing preventive and diagnostic services closer to people, particularly in rural and underserved areas. He stressed that early identification of cancer through regular screening at the primary level is critical in reducing mortality and improving treatment outcomes.

The health minister noted that under the Ayushman Bharat initiative, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are equipped to screen individuals for common cancers such as oral, breast, and cervical cancer. These services, he said, help ensure timely referrals to higher medical centres, reducing delays that often worsen disease progression.

Nadda also underlined that the government’s focus is not limited to treatment alone but extends to prevention, awareness, and follow-up care. He said trained healthcare workers at these centres are playing a key role in educating communities about symptoms, lifestyle risks, and the importance of regular check-ups, thereby strengthening India’s public health response.

According to the health ministry, the expansion of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs is part of a broader strategy to integrate non-communicable disease management into primary healthcare. This approach aims to ease the burden on tertiary hospitals while ensuring continuity of care at the grassroots level.

The remarks come amid growing concern over the rising incidence of cancer in India. By strengthening primary healthcare infrastructure and prioritising early detection, the government believes Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will remain central to India’s long-term strategy to combat cancer and other chronic diseases.
