Two Naxalites Killed In Chhattisgarh Carrying Rs 16 Lakh Bounty

The Bijapur encounter sees security forces neutralise Maoist cadres with high rewards.

Two Naxalites carrying a combined bounty of Rs 16 lakh were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday, police reported. The deceased, identified as Hidma Podiyam, 34, and Munna Madkam, 25, were members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) military platoon no. 1. The clash occurred in a forest in the southwestern part of Bijapur during an anti-Naxal operation led by the District Reserve Guard (DRG).

Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav stated that security forces recovered a .303 rifle, a 12-bore gun, eight rounds of ammunition, batteries, cordex wire, a scanner set, Maoist literature, and other materials from the encounter site. The operation was launched based on intelligence about Naxalite activity in the region, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh.

This incident follows a significant operation on Thursday, where security forces eliminated ten Naxalites, including Modem Balakrishna, a Central Committee Member of the CPI (Maoist) with an Rs 1.8 crore bounty, in Gariaband district. Chhattisgarh has seen intensified anti-Naxal operations in 2025, with 243 Naxalites killed across the state this year, including 214 in the Bastar division, 27 in Gariaband, and two in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district.

The sustained operations reflect the government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah setting a target to eliminate the threat by March 31, 2026. Security forces continue to conduct strategic operations in Naxal-affected regions to dismantle the Maoist network and recover arms.
