Two Naxalites Killed In Chhattisgarh Bijapur Encounter With Security Forces
Gunfight in Bijapur forest claims two Naxalites; weapons and explosives seized.
Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday morning, police confirmed. The clash occurred in a forest in the district’s southwest region, near the Telangana border, during an anti-Naxal operation. After the gunfire ceased, authorities recovered the bodies of two Naxalites, along with a .303 rifle and explosives, from the site. The operation remains ongoing, with further details expected upon its completion.
This incident follows a major encounter on Thursday in Gariaband district, where ten Naxalites, including Central Committee member Modem Balakrishna, who carried a Rs 1 crore bounty, were killed. The intensified operations reflect the Chhattisgarh government’s aggressive push against left-wing extremism, particularly in the Maoist-stronghold Bastar division. The state has reported 243 Naxalite deaths in encounters this year, with 214 in Bastar’s seven districts, 27 in Gariaband (Raipur division), and two in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki (Durg division).
The Bijapur encounter underscores the ongoing security challenges in Chhattisgarh, a region long plagued by Naxalite insurgency. Authorities continue to deploy specialised units, including the CRPF and state police, to curb Maoist activities. The recovery of weapons signals sustained efforts to disrupt insurgent networks in the region.
