Two Navy Kayakers, Including Vishnu Raghunathan, Die in Bhopal Road Accident

Asia Cup champion Vishnu Raghunathan and teammate Ananth die in tragic Bhopal road accident.

Two accomplished Indian Navy kayakers from Kerala, including 2024 Asia Cup gold medalist Vishnu Raghunathan, were killed in a tragic road accident in Bhopal on November 10, 2025. The victims—Vishnu Raghunathan and Ananth—were part of a national training camp when their vehicle met with the mishap in the early hours. Both suffered critical injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where Vishnu succumbed shortly after admission, while Ananth passed away hours later during treatment.

The kayakers were en route within the city when the accident occurred, highlighting the perils of road travel even for disciplined athletes. Vishnu, celebrated for his Asia Cup triumph earlier in the year, represented India's rising prowess in water sports, while Ananth was equally promising in the Navy's elite squad. Their deaths have sent shockwaves through the sporting community, robbing the nation of two dedicated talents.

The Indian Navy and kayaking federation have expressed profound grief, with tributes pouring in for the duo's contributions to national and international events. Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash, amid calls for enhanced safety measures for athletes travelling for camps.
