Two Indian LPG Tankers Carrying 94,000 Tonnes of Cooking Gas Clear Strait of Hormuz Safely

BW TYR and BW ELM are now heading to Mumbai and New Mangalore with 94,000 tonnes of LPG.

Two Indian LPG tankers carrying a significant portion of the country’s daily cooking gas requirement have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. The vessels, identified as BW TYR and BW ELM, are transporting a combined cargo of approximately 94,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas.

According to an official statement, both tankers have successfully transited the sensitive maritime route and are now heading towards Indian ports. The development is being closely monitored given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor often affected by regional conflicts.

BW TYR is currently en route to Mumbai and is expected to arrive on March 31, while BW ELM is heading towards New Mangalore with an estimated arrival date of April 1. These shipments are crucial for maintaining steady domestic LPG supply, especially amid fluctuating global energy dynamics.

The safe passage of the vessels comes as a relief for Indian energy planners, as disruptions in the region could have impacted fuel availability. Authorities have been taking precautionary measures to ensure uninterrupted supply chains in light of the volatile situation.

The movement of these tankers underscores the continued reliance on maritime routes for energy imports and highlights the importance of securing vital shipping lanes. Officials remain vigilant as geopolitical developments continue to influence global oil and gas transportation.
