Heavy monsoon rains continued to batter the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Wednesday, triggering widespread waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding, with a dramatic incident in Vasai East where two cars were swept away by a swollen stream following intense rainfall. The incident occurred at Waghral Pada in Rajawali as rising water levels turned a normally calm stream into a fast-moving current, highlighting the severity of the ongoing weather conditions.
In the most alarming moment captured from the site, a WagonR car carrying a driver was caught in the sudden surge of water. The driver narrowly escaped after realizing the danger and managed to jump out of the vehicle just moments before it was carried away by the strong current. The visual aftermath showed the car being dragged downstream, underscoring the unpredictable force of monsoon-induced flooding in the region.
A second vehicle was also swept away in the same incident and reportedly crashed into a nearby pedestrian bridge, causing structural damage. The sudden flooding created panic among local residents, many of whom rushed to the area as water levels rose rapidly. Authorities have since been monitoring the site as part of ongoing efforts to assess damage and manage flood-affected zones.

The crisis in Vasai comes amid a broader spell of monsoon-related disruptions across Mumbai, where continuous heavy rainfall has led to submerged roads, slow-moving traffic, and strain on civic infrastructure. In recent days, the city has also witnessed multiple rain-linked tragedies, including fatalities caused by a tree falling on a school bus in Chembur and a balcony slab collapse in South Mumbai.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for Mumbai and surrounding areas, forecasting intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Officials have urged residents to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone neighbourhoods, as conditions remain unstable and further downpours are expected.
Civic agencies continue to monitor vulnerable locations and deploy emergency response measures to manage waterlogging and ensure public safety. However, recurring incidents such as the Vasai stream overflow have once again raised concerns about urban flooding preparedness and the growing impact of extreme monsoon events on Mumbai’s infrastructure and daily life.
