#JUSTIN: Two Blasts Near Punjab Defence Establishments in 2 Hours Trigger Security Alarm

Two incidents—a scooter fire near the BSF and an explosion at an army camp—strike Punjab defence establishments within hours.

Two separate incidents, including a suspected blast and a fire, reported within a span of two hours near defence establishments in Punjab have raised serious security concerns across the state. The events occurred in Jalandhar and Amritsar on Tuesday night, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement agencies and triggering political reactions over the state’s law and order situation.

The first incident took place around 8 pm outside the Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar, where a parked scooter suddenly caught fire near the main gate. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion-like sound, with the impact felt up to 300 metres away, shattering windows of nearby vehicles and shops. However, police officials have urged caution, stating that it is too early to confirm whether it was an actual blast or a mechanical fire.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said preliminary findings suggest that the scooter caught fire, but investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause. According to initial accounts, the vehicle belonged to a local delivery worker who had parked it before the incident occurred. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to rule out any foul play or technical malfunction.

Approximately two hours later, another incident was reported nearly 100 kilometres away in Amritsar, where an explosion occurred along the outer wall of the Army’s Khasa Camp on Attari Road. Police officials stated that fragments resembling metal were found embedded in the wall, indicating that an explosive object may have been thrown at the site by unidentified individuals who fled immediately after the incident.

Senior police officials confirmed that no injuries were reported in either of the incidents, but investigations are being conducted from all possible angles, including potential security threats. Authorities have not established any connection between the two incidents so far, but the proximity to defence installations has heightened alert levels in the region.

The incidents have sparked political reactions, with leaders across parties expressing concern over security lapses. Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring termed the developments “deeply alarming,” while Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia questioned whether law and order in the border state had weakened. Calls for stronger preventive measures and enhanced vigilance have intensified as authorities continue their probe.
