Twelve Uttar Pradesh Labourers Stranded in Kyrgyzstan After False Job Promises Abroad

Families beg for rescue as labourers face brutal overseas ordeal.

Twelve labourers from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district remain stranded in Kyrgyzstan three months after being lured abroad with false job promises, their distraught families told authorities this week. Relatives allege the men are being physically tortured, starved, shifted between cities against their will, and treated worse than animals by unscrupulous agents who now demand an additional two lakh rupees each for their release.

The workers, identified as Ravi Kumar, Ajay, Chandrapal, Santram, Rohit, Ramesh, Harswaroop, Shyamcharan, Sanjeev, Prempal, Ramasare, and Harishankar, were reportedly sent on short 59-day tourist visas after paying around two and a half lakh rupees each to a local recruitment agency operating from Pilibhit. According to the families, the men were handed misleading contracts and have since been held in conditions amounting to forced labour with no means to return home independently.

Desperate video messages from the trapped labourers have reached their homes, showing visible distress as they plead with Indian authorities for immediate rescue. Family members have repeatedly approached the district magistrate and superintendent of police, submitting formal complaints and evidence of the ongoing abuse. Some relatives broke down while narrating the ordeal during a recent meeting with District Magistrate Gyanendra Singh and SP Abhishek Yadav.

Following directives from the Uttar Pradesh Home Department, the Pilibhit administration has compiled a comprehensive report containing identities, visa details, video appeals, and complaint copies, which has now been forwarded to the state government. The district magistrate confirmed that a detailed probe is underway under City Circle Officer Deepak Chaturvedi to establish the role of the local agents and expedite coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs for repatriation.

Authorities have assured the families that all necessary steps are being initiated to bring the twelve men back safely, while police investigate potential charges of human trafficking and cheating against the recruitment agency and its representatives involved in the case.
