Tripura Schools To Follow New Rule On National Song And Anthem Recitation
Tripura announces mandatory anthem and national song recitation.
The Tripura government has made the daily recital of the national song Vande Mataram and the national anthem Jana Gana Mana compulsory in all schools across the state, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Tuesday. The directive issued by the Education (School) Department requires schools to begin daily classes with a collective singing of the full version of the national song, followed by the national anthem.
Chief Minister Manik Saha shared the decision through a post on social media platform X, stating that the initiative aims to encourage national unity, respect for cultural heritage, and a sense of responsibility among students. He said the move was intended to help shape younger generations into more aware and responsible citizens while strengthening respect for national symbols.
According to the official guidelines, the rule will apply to government schools, government-aided institutions, privately managed recognised schools, and recognised madrassas operating under the administrative jurisdiction of Tripura. The department said the decision follows national directives regarding the proper observance, dignity, and official versions of India’s national song and anthem.

The government notification stated that schools must ensure proper protocol and decorum whenever Vande Mataram is sung or played. Students, teachers, and administrative staff will be required to stand at attention during the recital as a mark of respect. The guidelines are aimed at creating a uniform practice across educational institutions in the state.
The Education Department said the initiative is also focused on promoting national integration and encouraging young people to develop respect for India’s cultural and historical traditions. Officials highlighted that schools play an important role in building awareness about national values and civic responsibility among students.
With the implementation of the new directive, all schools in Tripura will now incorporate the national song and anthem into their daily academic routine. The state government expects the practice to become a regular part of school activities while reinforcing the importance of national symbols among students.
