Tripura CM Saha Mourns Death Of DGP Anurag, Praises His Service

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday paid tribute to Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag, describing his death as an irreparable loss for the state and its police force. Saha said Tripura had lost an honest, efficient and dedicated police officer whose commitment to public service, law enforcement and public safety would be remembered for years.

The body of DGP Anurag was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom attached to his official chamber at the Tripura Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday. An unnatural death case has been registered, and the investigation will proceed according to legal procedures, the Chief Minister said while referring to the incident.

Expressing grief over the death of the senior IPS officer, Saha highlighted Anurag’s professionalism, integrity and dedication throughout his career. He said the officer’s efforts contributed to improvements in the state’s law and order situation and described him as a symbol of courage, discipline and commitment to public service.

The Chief Minister recalled his recent interaction with Anurag during the Tripura Police Passing Out Parade on July 18, saying the DGP appeared cheerful and in good spirits at the time. Saha said Anurag’s leadership had given him confidence that the state’s law and order responsibilities were in capable hands.

According to preliminary post-mortem findings, Saha said the cause of death was identified as hanging. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family, saying they had suffered the greatest loss, and prayed for strength for them during the difficult period. He added that Anurag’s values of duty, compassion and selfless service would continue to inspire police personnel and citizens.

Several senior officials, including Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, state ministers, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Home Secretary Abhishek Singh and acting DGP G.S. Rao, paid their last respects to Anurag on Tuesday. Tributes were held at the Police Headquarters and later at the Civil Secretariat.

Following the ceremonies, Anurag’s mortal remains were taken to his native place in Baraut, Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, via Odisha and Delhi, accompanied by family members and senior police officials. The Tripura government observed a one-day state mourning in honour of the 1994-batch Indian Police Service officer, who had taken charge as DGP on May 17 last year after previously serving as Director General of Police (Intelligence) in the state.
