Triple Tragedy Hits Kolkata’s Anandapur
Three puzzling deaths in one day stun locals
A wave of unease has gripped the Anandapur area in South Kolkata following three mysterious deaths reported within a single day, prompting intense police investigations. The incidents, all under the jurisdiction of Anandapur police station, have left residents seeking answers as authorities probe potential causes ranging from drug overdoses to suicides.
The first case involves a 28-year-old bar dancer found unconscious in a guesthouse near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass on Monday. Her companion, who had checked into the guesthouse with her on Sunday evening, rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Staff reported the pair appeared normal upon arrival, but police suspect a possible drug overdose. “We’re awaiting toxicology and post-mortem reports to confirm the cause,” a senior officer stated. The woman’s identity remains undisclosed pending family notification.
In a separate incident, fishermen at a popular Anandapur picnic spot discovered the decomposed body of a man, estimated to be around 50, hanging from a tree. The group alerted police after detecting a foul odor. While initial findings point to suicide, investigators are exploring other possibilities, including foul play. The man’s identity is yet to be established, complicating the probe.

The third case involves a 35-year-old woman found dead in her Adarshnagar residence in Nonadanga. Neighbors alerted authorities after noticing her home unusually silent for days. Police suspect suicide but are conducting a thorough investigation, including interviews with family and friends. All three bodies have been sent for autopsies to determine the exact causes of death.
Local residents expressed shock at the string of tragedies. “This is a quiet area; such incidents are unheard of,” said Rakesh Mondal, a shopkeeper near the picnic spot. Police have increased patrols in Anandapur to reassure the community while urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigations are ongoing, with forensic teams analyzing evidence to uncover any connections between the cases.
