Tribal Women in Odisha Receive Praise from PM Modi for Santhali Saree Revival!
PM Modi praises Odisha’s tribal women for reviving Santhali sarees and using kirtans to promote environmental awareness.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 124th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address, showered praise on the tribal women of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district for their remarkable revival of Santhali sarees. Over 650 women have breathed new life into this traditional craft, earning thousands of rupees monthly while forging a powerful cultural identity. “These women are not just weaving cloth but crafting their own legacy,” Modi declared.
The PM also spotlighted Pramila Pradhan from Keonjhar district, whose innovative Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali uses soulful kirtans to raise awareness about forest fire prevention and environmental conservation. By weaving new lyrics into traditional songs, Pradhan’s troupe travels across villages, educating communities about the devastating impact of forest fires. “This is the power of our folk traditions—guiding society toward a better future,” Modi said, marveling at the initiative’s creativity.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined children at Vanavasi Kalyan Ashram in Bhubaneswar to listen to the broadcast, planting a neem sapling to mark the occasion. Majhi inspired the children to study hard and pursue success, emphasizing the motivational essence of Modi’s program. State BJP president Monmohan Samal and pravari Vijaypal Singh Tomar also tuned in at separate events in Bhubaneswar, celebrating the state’s contributions to cultural and environmental progress.
