Tragic Truck Accident Claims Four Young Lives in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli

A devastating accident on the Armori-Gadchiroli highway in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district claimed the lives of four minor boys and left two others critically injured early Thursday morning. The incident, which occurred around 5 am in Katli village, 12 km from the district headquarters, has sent shockwaves through the community.

According to police reports, the six boys, aged between 12 and 16, were sitting by the roadside when a speeding truck struck them. Four of the boys died on the spot, while the two survivors were rushed to Gadchiroli General Hospital. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the injured are being airlifted to Nagpur for advanced medical care, with the state government covering all treatment costs.

Fadnavis expressed profound grief, stating, “I am deeply pained by this tragic accident. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. We stand with them in this moment of immense loss.” He also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased.

Preliminary investigations suggest the truck driver fled the scene, and police are working to apprehend the individual. The incident has raised concerns about road safety on the highway, which has seen multiple accidents in recent years, including a May 2025 crash that killed four people when a car collided with a truck. Local residents have called for stricter traffic regulations and speed monitoring to prevent such tragedies.

The accident underscores the urgent need for improved road infrastructure and awareness in rural areas like Gadchiroli, where heavy vehicles often share narrow roads with pedestrians. As the community mourns, authorities are under pressure to ensure justice and implement measures to enhance safety on the district’s highways.
