Tragic Fire at Arunachal School Claims Student’s Life
School Fire Kills One, Injures Three
A devastating fire at the boys’ hostel of Papikurung Government Residential School in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomi district claimed the life of one student and left three others injured in the early hours of Sunday. The blaze, reported around 2 am, engulfed the hostel in a remote village 17 km from Monigong town, near the last Indian Army post in Tadadege.
Shi-Yomi Superintendent of Police S.K. Thongdok confirmed the incident, stating that the injured students—Lukhi Pujen (8), Tanu Pujen (9), and Tayi Pujen (11)—are receiving treatment at Zonal General Hospital in Aalo, West Siang district. The identity of the deceased student, whose body was charred beyond recognition, is yet to be established.
A police team has been dispatched to investigate the cause of the fire, which remains unclear, particularly as the village lacks power connectivity, ruling out electrical faults. Initial reports suggest the fire spread rapidly, trapping students in the hostel. Local authorities and community members assisted in rescue efforts, but the remote location complicated response times.
