Tragedy in Dadar: One Life Lost, Four Injured in Late-Night Bus Collision
A speeding tempo traveller hit a BEST bus and cars in Mumbai’s Dadar, leaving one dead and four injured.
A tragic accident in Mumbai's Dadar area claimed the life of a 37-year-old man and left four others injured when a speeding tempo traveller collided with a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus and two other vehicles late Sunday night. The incident, which unfolded around 11:30 PM, highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the densely populated city, where high traffic volumes and erratic driving often lead to such mishaps.
Police reports indicate that the BEST bus, operating on a wet-lease basis from Worli depot to Pratiksha Nagar, was approaching the Dadar Plaza bus stop when the tempo traveller, en route to Shivaji Park, lost control. The driver veered sharply, striking the bus's right front wheel and causing it to swerve left into waiting passengers and pedestrians. The impact damaged the bus significantly and sent shockwaves through the crowded stop, a common hub for commuters in central Mumbai.
The tempo traveller did not stop there; it subsequently rammed into a taxi and a tourist car, wrecking both vehicles. Amid the chaos, the bus conductor and local police acted swiftly, transporting the injured to Sion Hospital. Tragically, one victim, identified as Shahabuddin, was pronounced dead on arrival. The four survivors, including a woman, are receiving treatment for their injuries, though their conditions remain undisclosed pending further updates from medical authorities.

Shivaji Park Police have filed a case against the tempo traveller driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving endangering human life. Investigators are probing whether alcohol played a role, with forensic tests underway. This accident adds to Mumbai's grim road fatality statistics, which exceeded 800 deaths in 2024, according to state transport department data. Authorities urge stricter enforcement of speed limits and driver training to prevent future tragedies on the city's bustling thoroughfares.
