TN Minister KN Nehru Linked to Massive Cash-for-Jobs Scam

ED alleges bribes, favoritism in MAWS recruitment drive.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted a 232-page dossier to the Tamil Nadu police, detailing an alleged cash-for-job scam involving MAWS Minister KN Nehru, his brothers KN Manivanan and Ravichandran, and close associates D Ramesh, T Selvamani, and Kavi Prasad. The dossier, sent on October 27 under Section 66(2) of the PMLA, urges the police to initiate a formal probe into irregularities in the recruitment of 2,538 officers and staff.

According to the ED, candidates or their relatives reportedly approached the minister’s associates to secure selection, agreeing to bribes ranging from Rs 25 lakh to 35 lakh. Digital evidence, including alleged WhatsApp chats recovered from associates’ phones during April 2025 raids, purportedly confirms coordination in favoring candidates recommended by brokers, MLAs, and senior officials. The dossier claims some candidates were assured selection days before exam results were officially announced, with appointment orders issued accordingly.

Specific allegations include Selvamani allegedly advancing candidates’ profiles, Kavi Prasad ensuring a candidate made it to the final merit list despite initial rejection, and Ravichandran securing the selection of a joint director’s daughter. The ED also cited images of currency notes allegedly used for hawala transactions shared via WhatsApp among the accused.

Opposition parties have called for immediate investigations, with AIADMK chief EPS urging the filing of an FIR and BJP leaders demanding a CBI probe. Responding to the allegations, Minister KN Nehru dismissed the charges as politically motivated, claiming the ED is targeting the Dravidian model government for ulterior reasons.

This dossier places the spotlight on alleged systemic corruption in Tamil Nadu’s public sector recruitment, potentially triggering a major political and legal storm ahead of upcoming elections.
